Not quite the weekend, but we’ve got to mention this one even though it’s on a Monday….As part of their CinemAlliance of July, and celebrating World Kiswahili Language Day, Alliance Francaise presents the award-winning Tanzanian film T-Junction: After the passing of her estranged father, Fatima makes an unlikely friend at a hospital, Maria.  Bound by pain, Fatima keeps coming back to hear Maria’s tale of the T-junction where she found love and loss in a ragtag community. In Swahili with English subtitles.

Fula: When Home is Calling | Saturday 6 July | 2 shows

A story about a spiritually gifted young, beautiful woman Fula (meaning Rain) who is stuck between two worlds, two cultures, two lifestyles and countless blinding opinions from society. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers her ancestral calling – she is caught between city life and heeding the call. This play interrogates the issue of identity and encourages women from both rural and urban areas to be proud of who they are.
