J.J. Holt – Holy Empire Book Launch
J.J. Holt will be launching the first book in his sci-fi series Holy Empire this Thursday at Under the Swahili Tree in Karen.
Holt told iN that he has loved anything fantasy and sci-fi since the 2nd book he read as a child: the fantasy classic The Hobbit (of the Lord of the Rings series) by J.R.R. Tolkien. At a tender age, Holt fell in love with the magic and supernatural featured in Tolkien’s Middle Earth. He then made it his mission in life to seek out anything fantasy or sci-fi.
At the age of 13 he discovered the role-play game Dungeons and Dragons. For Holt it was an amazing revolution being a dungeon master and being able to write the stories that his players could live. When he was 18 he actually started writing what was to become Holy Empire… 24 years later it has become a very different book, but after a long break away from the book, when he sat down to write it… it flowed.

In the small hamlet of Havendale, an unending winter brings a desperate father to make a deal with a mysterious figure for the safe birth of his twin boys, Jacob and Robin. Raised in the harsh northern climate, the brothers struggle to survive famine, cold, plague, wolves, witches, and the insidious Inquisition.
As they come of age, one of the twins discovers he possesses a power considered heretical by the church and must hide it at all costs to avoid persecution.
Meanwhile, a young prince named William sets out on his own quest to secure his kingdom and make it a fair and just land for all. His journey leads him into a treacherous political game, as he tries to grant civil rights to the downtrodden non-human Haulfin.
As these two storylines unfold, they begin to intersect, and the fate of the Empire rests on the shoulders of these unlikely heroes. The Twins and William must face their own challenges and overcome impossible odds to save their world from an uncertain future.
Hinting at a touch of Game of Thrones, this book promises to be a page turner and a welcome addition to the literary world of sci-fi/fantasy.
