One Hundred Faces for a Single Day | Cheche Books | 7pm
A film screening from the @palfilminstitute‘s “Provoked Narratives” film programme. Filmmaker Ghazi combined documentary and abstract sequences with a series of discontinuous plot lines to organize a stinging attack on the bourgeois decadence in this film of remarkable self-reflexivity that recognizes and denounces the limits of political cinema.”Provoked Narratives” is an invitation to understand the narratives created around Palestine as part of a long colonial project, a blueprint of violence. To consider the ways in which the camera, since its very inception as a new tool, has played a conflicted role in the project of empire. To consider how images have been co-opted, and to see how images can also resist.
The film screenings will be followed by a discussion and will raise funds for mutual aid in Gaza.
The Cemetary of Cinema | Goethe Institut x Docubox | Goethe-Institut Auditorium | 6 – 9pm
We dive into history with “The Cemetery of Cinema” by Thierno Souleymane Diallo. The 1953 film “Mouramani” by Mamadou Touré is believed to be the first film ever made in Guinea. Interested in the conditions of its production – and the whereabouts of a film print – Thierno Souleymane Diallo sets out to find people who can tell him about “Mouramani” ’s history and its reception. Stay on after the screening for a conversation with local experts.
