“No Simple Way Home”, directed by Akuol de Mabior and produced by Sam Soko, Tiny Mungwe, and Don Edkins. This powerful documentary follows a mother and her daughters as they return to South Sudan after years in exile. Amid a fragile peace, Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior—widow of South Sudan’s independence leader John Garang—fights to honor his vision, while her daughters grapple with what it means to call South Sudan home. The film offers an intergenerational conversation about family, legacy, and identity, set against a backdrop of political instability and hope for a better future.

“Travel through – Planet Africa” Exhibition|  Nairobi National Museum, Creativity Gallery | Museum hours

The Planet Africa exhibition explores two million years of African history and archaeology. It highlights themes like human origins, cultural evolution, and the impact of ancient knowledge on contemporary research, featuring works by African street artists @maasai_mbili and interactive visuals. The exhibition, which will show in Kenya, Germany, and other countries in Africa, reflects collaboration between African and German researchers.

Artist talk with Agnes Waruguru @waru_guru | Circle Art Gallery | 3pm

A discussion with the artist Agnes Waruguru on the occasion of her solo exhibition “What The Water Left Behind”. Waruguru received a B.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA in 2017. She has participated in residencies at the Rijksakademie van beldeende Kunsten in Amsterdam, ArtSpace Sydney, Saba Artists Residency in Lamu, VideoBrasil Biennial Artists Residency in Boicucanga, Brazil. Waruguru participated in the inaugural edition of the Stellenbosch Triennale, South Africa, 2020. She has been nominated for the Volkskrant Beeldende Kunst Prijs 2022, at the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam. She Participated in the 22nd Edition of the Videobrasil Biennial in São Paulo. Waruguru is currently showing in the 60th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, Foreigners Everywhere.


Roads: Sudan-Hub Showcase | Goethe-Institut | Opening reception 6pm

In collaboration with @therestrsdncy “Roads” is an exhibition that celebrates the individual journeys of resilience of 4 Sudanese artists. Through the usage of various mediums such as painting, VR, and sound, the artists express the issues and the memories that matters to them the most at a time of exile and the context of war. The exhibition is open everyday from 10am – 5pm, except Sunday.

A special screening of DISCO AFRIKA: A MALAGASY STORY (2023) + short film WE SHALL NOT FORGET (2024) with a conversation between both directors, Luck Razanajaona and Brian Obra.

‘Disco Afrika: A Malagasy Story’ follows Kwame, who struggles to make a living in the clandestine sapphire mines. He will have to choose between easy money and loyalty; between individualism and political awakening.

‘We Shall Not Forget’ is a short film documenting the June protests in Kenya 2024.
