Lunar New Year Celebration | Maam Maam | From 5pm

Maam Maam says: “We are approaching the most sacred festival of the Year for Vietnamese folks – Tết – Lunar New Year. It’s the time for us to be with family, eat a ton, give younger folks lucky money and older folks serious wishes for health and prosperity. The last time I celebrated Tết with my family was 2020. So this year, I want to bring the celebration to Măm Măm to soothe the nostalgia. Over the course of 3 days, we will hand out 400 envelopes with redeemable Măm Măm money at random value (ranging from 200 to 2000 KES) and wishes. There will also be music, small complementary bitings, and fun traditional Tết gambles and games. Remember to RSVP and wear something RED!”

Chúc Mừng Năm Mới! (Happy New Year!)

SCREENiNG

Back with more documentaries this year, starting off with a Kenyan one, of course: Our Land, Our Freedom. The film tells the story of 2 extraordinary Kenyan women – a mother and daughter, Mukami and Wanjugu Kimathi – who share a mission to shine a light on the too-long-kept secret atrocities of British colonial rule in Kenya. After the legendary freedom fighter, Dedan Kimathi, was hanged by the British colonial regime in 1957 for leading Kenya’s 1950s independence struggle, they secretly dumped his body. Now, his daughter, Wanjugu, joins her mother’s decades long quest, searching for his remains.

As usual, a thrilling discussion and Q&A session will ensue. FREE ENTRY
