If your idea of a perfect Friday involves a little friendly competition, a few strikes, and doing some genuine good in the world—this one’s right up your alley.
For one evening this month, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is inviting Nairobians to lace up their bowling shoes for something a little different: Bowl for a Cause, a high-energy charity tournament that turns every pin knocked down into real-world impact.
Taking over the lanes at Village Market on Friday, April 17 from 4PM to 7:30PM, the event blends feel-good fun with a powerful purpose. Whether you roll in solo or rally a full team of eight, you’ll be part of an evening where players don’t just win games—they help save lives.

Bowling, but Make It Meaningful
This isn’t your average night out. Each frame bowled is symbolic of the battles MSF is fighting every day: from malaria and measles to malnutrition and emergency trauma care. It’s a simple but striking concept: play a game you love while supporting communities that urgently need medical care.
MSF’s work in Kenya makes that connection feel especially close to home. From long-standing programmes in Homa Bay addressing HIV and non-communicable diseases, to decades of support for refugees in Dadaab, the organisation has been on the ground responding to crises where it matters most.

Just last year, teams MSF responded to multiple emergencies in Kenya, including measles outbreaks in Nairobi, Marsabit, and Baringo; cholera in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Narok; malaria in Turkana; a landslide in Elgeyo Marakwet; political unrest in Nairobi and Kisumu; and kala-azar in Marsabit and Wajir.
Now, you can be part of this humanitarian commitment at the first-ever MSF Bowling Challenge. Each pin you knock down is representative of a disease or crisis we’re working to defeat in many of our projects in Kenya—including malaria, measles, malnutrition.
An Easy Way to Show Up
The beauty of Bowl for a Cause is how accessible it is. You don’t need to be a pro bowler—or even particularly sporty. All you need is a willingness to show up, have fun, and contribute.

The Impact You Can Make – By Bowling
MSF has spent over 50 years delivering life-saving care to people with nowhere else to turn. Events like this help fund that work, ensuring that medical teams can continue responding quickly and effectively, whether it’s an outbreak in Nairobi or a crisis in more remote regions.
Now more than ever MSF needs the support of donors like you. Although MSF is not directly financially impacted by funding cuts like USAID, they have significantly affected the broader humanitarian landscape. Healthcare needs across many of projects are increasing as funding cuts and policy shifts by traditional donor countries reduce the resources available for global health and humanitarian responses. This is deepening the neglect of people affected by malnutrition, disease, conflict, displacement, and climate-related crises.
Fewer aid organisations are operating on the ground, and as a result, MSF teams are dealing with the consequences: supply shortages, higher costs, gaps in referrals and coordination, and rising patient numbers as other organisations scale down or close. Support for MSF is essential to ensure the organisation can continue responding rapidly, fill critical gaps in care, and reach people who would otherwise be left without access to lifesaving services.
So yes, it’s bowling. But it’s also something bigger.
Your participation can help turn an evening of fun, into a lifeline for those in need.
ONE EVENING. ONE STRIKE AT A TIME. TOGETHER, WE CAN SAVE LIVES.
