A Decade of Magic: Dance Centre Kenya Celebrates 10 Years of The Nutcracker

Nairobi’s most beloved holiday tradition returns—and this year, it’s even more enchanting. Dance Centre Kenya (DCK) is set to mark the 10th anniversary of its annual Nutcracker production, a milestone that promises a truly unforgettable edition of the classic Christmas ballet.

For a decade, DCK’s Nutcracker has transformed Nairobi’s festive season, pulling audiences into a world of swirling snowflakes, shimmering costumes, and Tchaikovsky’s timeless score.

From it’s founding in 2015, with performances on a makeshift stage in the gardens of the Purdy Arms (Karen) without tutus, DCK has grown to produce the spectacular ballets that audiences have come to expect on the stage of the Kenya National Theatre. What began as a heart-filled student Christmas production has grown into a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar, drawing families, dance lovers, and theatre-goers alike.

This anniversary production – under the artistic direction of professional American ballerina Cooper Rust – is shaping up to be DCK at its very best. As usual, expect classic choreography, dazzling set pieces, and the polished performances that the school’s cast – both young rising talents and seasoned dancers – have become known for. The iconic scenes you know and love will return to the stage: Clara’s magical journey, the glittering Land of Snow, and the delightful charm of the Kingdom of Sweets.

Whether it’s your annual tradition or your first time stepping into this festive dreamscape, the 10th anniversary Nutcracker is the perfect way to begin the holiday season.

Tickets typically sell out quickly, and this year will be no exception.
