This weekend, immerse yourself in a compelling new theatre production that confronts the intersections of race, love, and forgiveness. Lady in Red is a journey through the ruins of a once-fierce love that dared to defy the world, now standing at the brink of collapse.
On the stage, a white woman and a black man face the hardest question of all: Is love enough?
Pressured by clashing cultures, suffocating expectations, and the quiet wounds of past abandonment, they are forced to confront buried resentments and racial tensions that have shaped — and strained — their relationship. Yet in the spaces between their pain, the pull of their hearts remains undeniable.

As they face the ghosts of choices that once drove them apart, they discover that healing is neither simple nor perfect — but still possible. Their story becomes a fragile journey toward forgiveness, offering proof that even at the edge of ending, love can still whisper, “Try again.”
This story will be relevant to anyone who has ever been in a relationship as it looks at the beauty of the cycles of a relationship, through the ups and the downs. It notes how much complexity and depth is in any relationship and highlights the emotional complexity of love.
Lead Sam Psenjen made his professional acting debut in 2001 at Phoenix Players in Cajetan Boy’s Family Ties. Since then he has made appearances in numerous productions among which are Shakespeare’s Richard III, Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People, Neil Simon’s Rumours, John Sibi Okumu’s Meetings, and Bode Sowande’s The Night Before. Most recently he featured in Scrooge – The Musical and Tartuffe.
Co-star Carina Rumberger grew up in theatre and here in Nairobi took part in The Trial of Dedan Kimathi. She feels theatre is not only about telling stories but being part of that story: “For an hour or so, we’re breathing the same air, we’re feeling each others’ emotions in our bodies, sensing the same frequencies of sound.”
