Preparing for Ramadhan, Together: A Community Wellness Gathering at Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital
In Nairobi, the approach of Ramadhan is felt less in grand gestures and more in small, practical shifts. Questions start circulating earlier. How do I prepare my body? What changes should I expect? What if fasting looks different for me this year? It’s a period that invites reflection, but also planning, especially when health and wellbeing are part of the equation.
This February, Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital is creating space for these conversations through the Ramadhan Wellness Connect, a community-focused wellness event designed to support people as they prepare for the month ahead with clarity, compassion, and good information.
Taking place on Saturday, 7 February 2026, the event invites individuals, families, and communities from all walks of life to gather at the hospital’s Loresho campus for a full day centred on learning, connection, and shared wellbeing. While the event is anchored in Ramadhan preparation, its approach is intentionally inclusive. Whether you are fasting, unable to fast, supporting someone who is fasting, or simply interested in understanding health and wellness during this season, the day is designed to welcome everyone.
At the core of the programme is the Wellness Connect Workshop, running from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, which focuses on practical, compassionate conversations around fasting and health. Medical professionals and wellness practitioners will explore topics such as fasting safely for those living with diabetes or kidney conditions, maintaining hormone balance, and ensuring adequate nourishment through Suhoor and Iftar. The session also addresses an often overlooked reality: not everyone is able to fast. By openly discussing alternative ways to engage with the spirit of Ramadhan, the workshop offers reassurance, understanding, and guidance without judgement.

Physical wellbeing is also part of the conversation. Participants will learn how to remain active during the month without placing unnecessary strain on the body, an important consideration as daily routines shift. Throughout the workshop, the emphasis remains on listening to the body, making informed choices, and approaching health with kindness rather than rigidity.
Beyond the workshop, the Ramadhan Wellness Connect unfolds as a relaxed, family-friendly community gathering. A free pop-up market, open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, will feature a thoughtful mix of offerings including ready-to-eat snacks, pastries, clothing, jewellery, gift hampers, healthy foods, and crafts for children. Visitors will also have the opportunity to donate towards Zakat, reinforcing the values of generosity, care, and shared responsibility that define the season.
What makes this event especially meaningful is its tone. Rather than presenting Ramadhan wellness as a checklist or a set of rules, it positions the month as a personal journey, one that looks different for everyone. It recognises that health is shaped by circumstance, access, and lived experience, and that community spaces play an essential role in supporting those differences.
Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital has long been known for its commitment to accessible healthcare and community outreach, extending its work beyond clinical services into education and preventative care. The Ramadhan Wellness Connect reflects this broader mission, offering a space where medical knowledge, everyday realities, and community connection meet.
For those looking to enter Ramadhan feeling informed, supported, and grounded, this event offers a gentle and inclusive starting point. It is an invitation to pause, learn, and prepare together.
