Escape to the foothills of Mount Kenya for a transformative 7-day retreat designed to help you Reconnect, Rest & Rewild.

There’s something poetic about returning to a place where your soul was stirred. For Alice Faulkner, Kenya is part of her story, and where she’s chosen to host a weeklong yoga retreat in the highlands of Nanyuki.

This retreat is designed for adults of all yoga experience – no matter how small, who love the grounding magic of nature-inspired yoga, and want to take that connection further into the rhythms of nature and the richness of rest.

A Teacher Rooted in Nature, Healing & Medicine

Normally based in the UK, Alice Faulkner is many things: a Hatha, Vinyasa, and Trauma-informed Restorative yoga teacher, a Reiki practitioner, and perhaps less expected, a qualified medical doctor. Her journey into yoga began as a way to balance the demands of the hospital A&E with inner calm. Over time, that balancing act shifted as she embraced teaching –  weaving movement, breath, and the energy of nature into her offerings.

In her classes, she leans less on strict alignment and more on connection: to breath, to body, and especially with the natural world. Alice sets her classes in outdoor spaces because nature, in her view, offers an unparalleled container for practice and healing. She believes that yoga in nature offers the ultimate calming and immersive yoga experience.

It’s all about connecting in yourself and nature and the environment around you, to feel fully grounded, but also uplifted and rejuvenated”.

Alice’s roots in Africa also run deep. Born in Zimbabwe and raised across southern Africa, Alice has family ties that extend to Kenya: her parents once lived in Nairobi, and their stories inspired her to travel here. Earlier in 2025 she spent time living and teaching yoga in Kenya both at coast and Mount Kenya, including a much loved stay at the serene Kilima Gardens. While in Kenya, Alice immersed herself in the culture, the landscapes, and the rhythms of life and learned ”just how deeply nourishing this land is”.

Her time at Kilima Gardens in particular planted the seed for this very retreat. She saw the perfect surroundings of wide open skies, lush gardens, and views of Mount Kenya’s snow-dusted peaks as a perfect base for those seeking rest, nature connection, and gentle adventure.

Alice feels that practicing yoga in nature offers the kind of grounding and soulful calm that only comes from being in the wild, in the open air with the smells of earth and the feel of the wind – an environment which Kilima Gardens can offer in abundance.

What the 2026 Reconnect, Rest & Rewild Retreat Offers

From 1 to 7 February 2026, Alice will facilitate a transformative 7-day retreat at Kilima Gardens, Nanyuki, a luxury eco-retreat nestled at the foothills of Mount Kenya.

The design is simple and heartfelt: to help participants Reconnect (with self, with nature), Rest (from stress, from overstimulation), and Rewild (return to deeper intuition and openness).

Kilima Gardens sits on a stretch of rolling land just outside Nanyuki, where forest meets farmland and fragrant wild leleshwa bushes are abundant. Days start with the scent of dew on the earth and end in wide skies streaked with red and gold. That soft, honeyed highland light seems to linger a little longer here, before slipping behind the ridges.

It’s a place that brings you back to yourself, and I can’t wait to share it with you.” – Alice

Days unfold naturally, guided by a gentle schedule that gives you time to breathe and rest: yoga under dappled shade, long breakfasts, lazy hours relaxing by the rippling infinity pool. In the evenings, sit by a crackling fire as the stars take their places in the vast Laikipia skies one by one.

Kilima Gardens embodies softer, grounded, eco-luxury – accommodation that blends style, comfort and seclusion, the food honest and fresh, and a rhythm of life which slows to match the land. It’s the kind of place that calls you to soften, to listen, to remember what it feels like to belong to the earth again.
