A Quiet Strength with a Radiant Smile
There are people whose strength speaks quietly through love, courage, and compassion. They don’t seek the spotlight, yet their lives illuminate paths for others. Gisèle Willybiro-Maïdou is one of those people.
A former UN Public Information Associate, Gisèle now lives in Dubai with her husband and their son, Louis. She’s bubbly, stylish, and full of life the kind of woman whose laughter lingers in a room. She enjoys travel, music, and fashion, and yet it’s her heart for others that truly defines her. Because behind the sparkle is a story of faith, resilience, and purpose.
When Love Becomes Purpose
When her son Louis was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at an early age, Gisèle’s world shifted. What began as a deeply personal journey into understanding autism became a calling mission to change how society sees difference.
“Nione,” she explains, “means see me in Swahili. It’s about visibility about seeing children and individuals with autism not through the lens of stigma, but with dignity and love.”
From a Mother’s Heart to a Continental Movement

Founded in 2018 and officially registered in 2020, the Nione Initiative Foundation grew from that conviction. What started as a mother’s desire to help her child thrive has evolved into a faith-based movement building bridges between families, churches, schools, and institutions.
Through awareness campaigns, training workshops, advocacy efforts, and psychosocial support, Nione is reshaping how Africa understands autism — one conversation, one classroom, one community at a time.

Rooted in Faith and Humanity
“Every human is a human,” Gisèle often says — a personal motto inspired by Zo Kwe Zo, the national slogan of her home country, the Central African Republic. It’s a reminder that worth is not measured by ability, but inherent in being. And that belief shapes everything Nione stands for.
In many African societies, autism still carries stigma. Too often, families are told to hide their children, to stay quiet, to carry the burden alone. But Gisèle chose a different path. She embraced her son fully, turning her family’s journey into a living testimony of love and grace.
She often refers to the sacrifice made on the cross — a reminder, she says, that it was for all of us. “If we have been created,” she adds, “then we all belong.”
Those words guide everything she does. To Gisèle, inclusion isn’t just advocacy — it’s a reflection of divine love. It’s the belief that every person, regardless of ability, carries the image of God and deserves to be seen, valued, and included.

Changing the Narrative, One Story at a Time
Today, Nione’s work stretches across Anglophone and Francophone Africa, engaging educators, faith leaders, parents, and policymakers to create environments where neurodiverse individuals can thrive. The foundation’s mission is both simple and transformative: to ensure that every person with autism is seen, supported, and celebrated.
Gisèle’s story reminds us that inclusion begins not in policies or programs, but in the heart — in the choice to see, to listen, and to love differently.

Not All Superheroes Wear Capes
Gisèle Willybiro-Maïdou is proof that not all superheroes wear capes. Some wear bright smiles, carry faith in their hearts, and walk boldly through life’s hardest lessons. Her journey is a living testament that love, when shared openly, becomes a force for transformation.
Because when we learn to see differently, we learn to love more deeply.
